People in Pike County are gearing up for some very unique Independence Day celebrations.

On the 4th of July, the Meeksville community holds its annual parade, which draws thousands of people every year. It's not your average parade.

You'll find donkeys, horses, golf carts, even figures from history along the parade route. Organizers say it makes it one of the most unique celebrations in the state.

"You're out, as people say, 'in the country,' where we line up going two different ways, and we fold in feed in together and we have the live horses with the live people on their backs," said Mona Jackson, Parade Coordinator.

It's not too late for you to join in. If you want to be in the parade, lineup starts at 9 AM at the old Meeksville Volunteer Fire Department.

The parade kicks off at 10. Following the parade, barbecue plates will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit the Meeksville Volunteer Fire Department.

The City of Troy will hold its annual fireworks display. The show starts between 8:30 and 9:00 PM and can be seen at many places around Troy, including Veterans Memorial Stadium.
