The Troy Police Department is identifying 29-year-old Melissa Shipman as the victim in Saturday's murder. The suspect, 33-year-old Suroy Manquel Wheeler, is still on the loose. Police say they have reason to believe Wheeler has left the Troy area.

Sgt. Benny Scarbrough with the Troy Police Department says law enforcement officials are using all available resources to track down Wheeler. "This is a very tragic event that we're going through, and not just for that family, but for this entire city," he said.

Scarbrough says the police department thinks Wheeler is on the run, so they're expanding their search beyond Pike County. "If someone stops him, they're going to hold him for us, so it's not an if, it's just when," said Scarbrough.

According to circuit court records, Wheeler has a criminal history, including arrests for kidnapping, domestic violence and possession of cocaine.

Anyone with information about Suroy Wheeler's whereabouts is asked to contact the Troy Police Department at at 566-0500 or the Secret Witness Line at 566-5555.
