People in Prattville now have a new spot to cool off this summer. The city debuted their new splash pad in front of an eager crowd ready to get wet.

With 28 million votes last year, Pratt Park won the title of "America's Best Park." Along with the title, the city was awarded $100,000 from Coca Cola to build a splash pad. Now, the splash pad is open to the public and kids say they couldn't be more excited.

Parents say they too are looking forward to the splash pad.

"The splash pad is a great idea for the hot weather," says Kimberly Steele, mother to a four-year-old. "The kids get to come out, get wet, have fun and just play around."

The City of Prattville used a poll on their Facebook page to ask for public input on the layout of the splash pad.

"As a community, everyone got to look at four or five different designs and choose which one they liked the best," Prattville resident Nikki Davis says.

Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr. tells us the community played a big role in bringing the park to life.

"It was an effort of love by the whole community to be able to see the kids come out here and enjoy this."

He says the splash pad will keep both children and adults busy during the hot summer days.

"It's going to be a two-fold entertainment. One, for the kids. The other, the adults and people my size watching them and wishing we had things like this in my time."

And it's the kids who ultimately inspired this splash pad.

The splash pad will be open the 4th of July from 10AM to 3PM and everyday after that from 8AM to sunset. It is free to the public.
