Morning Prayer Service Remembers Lives Lost on April 27, 2011

Alabama residents are marking the anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak with prayerful ceremonies and tears. Governor Robert Bentley and other religious leaders began Friday morning with a prayer ceremony at the state capitol.

 

Bentley thanked the ordinary Alabama residents who he says are making the biggest difference in the recovery from the devastating storms that ravaged the state a year ago. Prayers of thanksgiving and remembrance were offered along with songs of praise as the state honored the more than 250 people who were killed one year ago today.

 

“Today our state will pause and remember the men and women and children we lost one year ago,” Bentley said. “I want to ask each one of you here to take a moment as you leave and read the names of the tornado victims that we have display, like Diane and I have done so many times and to pray for those victims’ families."

 

Some businesses that were hit by twisters have picked the anniversary as a reopening date; churches are holding prayer services.
