Police at the Alabama Statehouse handcuffed and led away six adults who kneeled on the floor outside the Senate chamber Thursday morning in protest of Alabama's immigration law.
Authorities say the six refused orders by security to move. They prayed and sang "This Little Light of Mine." The six were held in a room at the Statehouse while officials discussed whether to file charges.
Two senators opposed to Alabama's tough immigration law, Democrats Bobby Singleton, and Quinton Ross, kneeled with the protesters but were not led away.
Luis Robledo of Birmingham said his mother was one of the six. He said she came from Colombia without documentation and eventually got citizenship. He said she has sympathy for people going through the same thing she did.
