Questions Raised about Legislative Redistricting PlanIt's still unclear when the governor will call a special session of the legislature to finalize plans to redraw district lines. Redrawing the legislative districts is required every 10 years. Lawmakers asked the governor to call a special session starting Thursday, one day after the regular session ends. A new district proposal puts Montgomery state Representatives Joe Hubbard and John Knight in the same district, which means they would have to run against each other. Its the first time in over a century, the Republican majority has been in charge of redrawing district lines. Hubbard says he believes they are dividing up Montgomery County and his district because he is a white Democrat. The co-chair of the committee overseeing the new districts says the changes are only being made because of shift in population. Meanwhile a Bentley spokesperson says he's not made a decision on when to call a special session because several things could affect the timing or content. Most Viewed
