The crime rate in Montgomery is dramatically increasing this year.

United Dream Montgomery is working to help put an end to violence with a little friendly competition.

The organization hosted a "Shoot Hoops Not Guns" three-on-three basketball tournament on Saturday in an effort to bring the community together and raise awareness about gun violence.

It was at the Therapeutic Recreation Center from 9 A.M. until 3 P.M..

There were also fun games there too, like, musical chairs and a singing competition.

"There's been too much violence here, " said executive director of Eve's Circle Tafeni English.

"We're on our 21st homicide and this is not the face of our youth. This is not the dream that Dr. King and Miss Rosa Parks and so many others fought for," English continued.

The first place player in the tournournament won a $300 grand prize.
