A series of Alabama state flags are waving in the air at the state capitol, each representing the people who lost their lives one year ago in the April 27 tornadoes.

Storm survivors feel like the display is a reminder for those who lost loved ones on that horrible day.

"I think about these people all the time,” said Allee Ellen, a University of Alabama student who survived the storms. “These people that were harmed and the university students that were killed, they were so young and had so much to live for and now they’re not here anymore and those families and those little kids who weren't able to make it."

The state is asking people to observe a moment of silence at 4:27 p.m.
