Troy University students headed back to class today, many with heavy hearts.

Four students died over the winter break. A recent graduate student from China, Haijao Sun, died in a car crash in Florida the day after winter graduation.

Three days after Christmas, Troy University Junior Kimberle Johnson was killed in a Montgomery shooting. Three days later 18-year-old Troy Student Kristin Fuller was shot and killed at a New Year's party near Luverne.

And then football player Jadarius Garner is struck and killed on a Mississippi Roadway.

Many students said there was a somber mood across the campus.

Sarina Henderson, transferred from Alabama State University said, "It was really sad to hear about that. It was all violence, that's what it was connected to. And something needs to change. And I feel like we should have seminars, and stop the violence seminars here in Troy. I know they are having them in Montgomery but that would really help the community I think."

A vigil for the four deceased will be held on the quad next Wednesday at 4:30. An email was set out to all students today letting them know about counseling services on and off campus.
