Summary of Action in Alabama Legislature

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Tuesday, the fourth meeting day of the regular session:




-Passed a bill to approve the sale of $50 million in bonds to help improve career tech programs. Goes to Senate.


-Approved a bill to require the state to give businesses advance notice of changes in rules and regulations. Goes to Senate.


-Discussed but did not vote on a resolution asking the Catholic College of Cardinals to choose a black cardinal to replace Pope Benedict.




-Approved legislation to merge state law enforcement programs into a new agency. Goes to House.


-Approved legislation to consolidate the state's information technology operations under a new state authority. Goes to House.


-Passed legislation to create a secretary of information technology in the governor's Cabinet. Goes to House.




-Senate Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability Committee approved a House-passed bill to repay $437 million borrowed from the Alabama Trust Fund. Goes to Senate.




-Senate Education Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in room 727 of the Statehouse to consider school flexibility legislation.


- House Health Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Joint Briefing Room to discuss a bill to offer state employees a high deductible health plan.-


-Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in room 727 to consider property tax legislation.


-Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee meets at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in room 727 to consider corporate income tax legislation.


-Senate Judiciary Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 325 to consider legislation to pardon the Scottsboro Boys.


-Senate meets at 10 a.m. Thursday and House at 9 a.m.
