Suspicious Package Found At Maxwell Air Force Base

Authorities are investigating a suspicious package found at the base post office.  The Following is a press release issued by base officials.  We have a cew on the scene that are telling us that the base's gates have been closed to anyone trying to gain access to the base.

 

MEDIA RELEASE - IMMEDIATE

MAXWELL AFB, AL - The Montgomery EOD and base security officials responded to a report of a suspicious package at the base post office at about 10 a.m. today.

The base has established a cordon around the building. The cordon includes the Maxwell Blvd Gate, which is closed until further notice. Traffic is being directed to the other base gates.

As a safety measure, buildings within the cordon have been either evacuated or directed to shelter in place. The package was discovered during routine inspection and gave a positive indication for explosives.

The package is about the size of a box of blank checks.
