Tourism Up in Montgomery

Tourism is on the way up in the River Region. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange announced Thursday an increase in tourists over the past year.

He says last year Montgomery beat out Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile in the number of hotel visits to the city.

And with more events and attractions coming to Montgomery, Mayor Strange hopes it will attract even more people to the city in the coming year.

"While we are not where we want to be, we did have a 300 thousand dollar, 5.5 percent increase in visits in hotel rooms last year," said Strange.

One of the ways the city plans to help with tourism is by providing a new area of the city website called "What's Cool in Montgomery."

The interactive site gives locals and visitors a rundown of the latest happenings and places to go for entertainment.
