More than eleven hundred Special Olympics athletes competed in the state games this weekend at Troy University.

It's the seventh time Troy has hosted the games where athletes compete in 12 events from running to cycling.

The special olympics kicked off last night with a torch run by law enforcement officers and opening ceremonies at Troy University's new Trojan Arena.

The games end Sunday with an awards ceremony.

Those who qualify in their events are eligible for the national Special Olympics games in 2014.
