A new focus on learning comes to the city of Troy with the opening a new state-of-the-art public library.

The new library has been in the works for 15 years, so you can imagine how excited community members were to step inside the new facility on East Walnut Street.

A brand new 24,000 square foot facility filled with more than 66,000 books, movies and audio tapes to check out.

"Pride, excitement relief to finally give this community this library," says Library Board Chairman Rebbecca Skibba.

Troy's new public library is now open, and hundreds piled in to get a first glance at the multi-million dollar facility.

"By opening these doors, we're really enforcing that democratic ideal that everyone has the right to be informed," says Director William White.

The building offers a teen area, more computers and technology, and a children's room complete with a 12-foot-high castle where their imagination can run free.

"I think the children will love the castle, and they'll be surprised like wow!" says library member Ethan Barnes.

"It would be an adventure to go through all these books and movies here in the library," says library member Cadar Railey.

The Guerrero family says the new library will inspire their son Max.

"We try to read to him every night. Of course he has his favorites, but it's nice to have a little more selection, and he gets to choose," says the Guerreros.

Mayor Jimmy Lunsford says Troy outgrew the old library years ago.

"The last facility was 12,000 square feet, and I thought that would last us a life time, but we've grown so dramatically here in Troy that we had to have something new," says Lunsford.

And many can agree, the new building is a dream come true for the city.

Lunsford says the library's budget was set at $4 million, but it finished roughly $500,000 under budget.

Library employees say they are offering a new feature. Folks will now be able to check out books through their e-book reader.
