Tuscaloosa Cracks Down on Tornado Clean Up Efforts

Tools

By Kristen Fisher

The city of Tuscaloosa is working to clean up vacant properties left empty after the tornado of 2011 hit the city.

The tornado demolished hundreds of homes and businesses and those that haven't been rebuilt are now vacant and overgrown with weeds.

Notices have been planted on the lots warning owners that they will face a penalty if their area is not cleaned.

But some residents say they're glad the city is taking action because some areas are unattractive.

More than five hundred violations have been handed out so far and the city is reminding people to work together to clean the mess up.
