U.S. Military on Medical Mission in West AlabamaFrom the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- Thousands of people in the West Alabama are taking advantage of an opportunity to get some much needed medical attention—at no cost. The U.S. military has set up medical clinics in Selma, Hayneville and Demopolis and is providing free health services to anyone who needs it. Officials say it’s an opportunity to provide healthcare to people who might not otherwise be able to get it. They say it’s also great field exercise training for military medical personnel. “Primarily we’ve done overseas humanitarian missions but it’s wonderful to be able to it right here in our own back yard,” said Air Force Captain Joan Sparrock. Dallas County resident Connie Harris got an eye exam and a new pair of glasses. “It helps us out, the ones that don’t have insurance and the ones that can’t afford to go to the dentist or the vision center or even the medical doctors, it helps out,” she said. There no restrictions on who can receive service. The clinics are open daily from 8 am to 7 pm daily through May 10th. Most Viewed
