Waste Water Spray Field Sparks Concern in Uniontown

By George McDonald

A multi-million dollar waste water and sewage improvement project is underway in Uniontown -- but not everyone is happy about it.

Uniontown got a $4.8 million dollar grant to upgrade an aging waste water and sewer system.

Part of the upgrade includes construction of a second spray field for treated wastewater.

However, residents who live near the site of the new spray field want it moved somewhere else.

"I'm not saying not to install another spray field, I'm saying relocate it, relocate the spray field out from in front of these people's houses and off the main road to give Uniontown a little dignity," said Ben Eaton.

City officials say the new system is state of the art  and poses no health threat to residents or the environment.
