Well-Known Law Enforcement Officer Dies

 A 31-year veteran of law enforcement in Pike County passed away. 

 
Retired Major J.M. "Mack" Gregory died Christmas Eve at the age of 91. He spent 30 years with the Troy Police Department and 1 year with the Pike County Sheriff's Office. 
 
He's the last one to have the rank as major for the Troy Police Department and was also the last one to carry the title "assistant chief." Major Gregory was well known in the community and was described as the epitome of a law enforcement officer. 
 
Sgt. John Dillard, knew Major Gregory for 45 years said, "He could walk from here to Montgomery, I mean he just loved to walk. He loved the outdoors. And he was just a, like I said, super, super nice person." 
 
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home Visitation is from 1-2 p.m.
