What Is The Future of The Rose Supper Club?

With a history of shootings and other violence at the Rose Supper Club, some are asking- what's the future of this nightclub?

"It's pretty much a landmark. It was Top Flight before it changed to The Rose and it's probably been up there 30-35 years," says local resident Loid Jenkins.

But the club has a history of violence and controversy. A man was shot and killed in 2007 and another in 2008 on News Years Day. There have also been other recorded shootings and robberies over the years. And after an early morning shooting left 6 people in the hospital, some are asking if it's time to shut the club down.

"Anytime that you've got a bunch of people coming together that has some alcohol involved, that's an opportunity for some mischievous activity," says Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange.

Mayor Strange says the future of the nightclub is uncertain although he did say closing its' doors is an option.

"We have that authority to do that. It's something that we take very seriously. We probably would have a conversation with the ownership and probably remind them of their obligations. Perhaps we'll put them on notice, on a probationary period," he says.

But some locals say they feel the Rose Supper Club shouldn't have to take blame for these violent acts.

"I think pretty much that the club is a scapegoat. Normally they have security up there and like I said, I don't know what happened last night but normally theres shootings on Sharp and Ross streets and they include the club into it and that's really not the case," says Jenkins.

"I dont think it should shut down. Sometimes you probably want to try different security. Dont get local security because local security may know some of the guys with different beef going on," says local resident Willie Oates.

If you have any information regarding the shooting, you are asked to call Montgomery Police at (334) 241-2651.
