The CBS 8 First Alert Weather Network is equipped for hurricane season.  We have a state-of-the-art weather center with advanced tools like Stormtracker 3D Doppler.  And no other station in our area has the Live Alfa SkyCam Network.  You can watch weather conditions change from any of our 30 Live cameras around the clock.  It's all designed with one goal in mind -- keeping you and your family safe from the storm!

Emergency Supplies:

1.  Canned or dry goods.  Avoid buying anything that requires heating or cooling.

2.  Manual Can Opener

3.  Fresh Water to last for 3-5 days.  Each person will need about 1 gallon of water a day.

4.  First Aid Kit
  • Bandages
  • Gauze
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Alcohol
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Aspirin and other pain relievers
  • Antibiotic ointment like Neosporin
  • Stomach medications like Pepto Bismol and Imodium

5.  Get all your prescriptions filled

6.  Stock up on special needs for the elderly or small children like diapers and formula

7.  Flashlights

8.  Many and multiple types of batteries

9.  Soap and/or moist towelettes

10. Toilet paper

11. Fill up all vehicles with gas and all extra containers for generators or other gas-powered devices.

12. Get plenty of cash.  ATMs and credit cards won't work where there's no power or phone service.

13. Make sure insurance policies are up to date.  Most homeowners policies do not cover flood
     damage.

14.  Keep insurance policies, birth certificates, medical records, passports, and other important
      documents in a waterproof container.

15. Plan ahead for your pets.  Most evacuation shelters and many hotels will not take pets.  Make
sure they have a place to ride out the storm safely along with plenty of food and any medications.

16. Notify friends and/or relatives of where you will be going IF you have to evacuate before the storm
     arrives.

17. Pack 3-5 days worth of clothes in a small bag you can grab quickly should you have to leave
     suddenly.

18. Purchase a tarp or two.  They can be used to cover damaged roofs or even made into a tent.

19. Have a basic tool kit so you can make minor repairs or shut off water or gas if the need arises.
Make sure your tool kit contains plenty of duct tape.  It has 1001 uses!

20. Purchase a very large rubber garbage can (with a top) or other large air-tight container so you can
store all your supplies in a cool dry place until you need them.
