9. Soap and/or moist towelettes
10. Toilet paper
11. Fill up all vehicles with gas and all extra containers for generators or other gas-powered devices.
12. Get plenty of cash. ATMs and credit cards won't work where there's no power or phone service.
13. Make sure insurance policies are up to date. Most homeowners policies do not cover flood damage.
14. Keep insurance policies, birth certificates, medical records, passports, and other important documents in a waterproof container.
15. Plan ahead for your pets. Most evacuation shelters and many hotels will not take pets. Make sure they have a place to ride out the storm safely along with plenty of food and any medications.
16. Notify friends and/or relatives of where you will be going IF you have to evacuate before the storm arrives.
17. Pack 3-5 days worth of clothes in a small bag you can grab quickly should you have to leave suddenly.
18. Purchase a tarp or two. They can be used to cover damaged roofs or even made into a tent.
19. Have a basic tool kit so you can make minor repairs or shut off water or gas if the need arises. Make sure your tool kit contains plenty of duct tape. It has 1001 uses!
20. Purchase a very large rubber garbage can (with a top) or other large air-tight container so you can store all your supplies in a cool dry place until you need them.
