Weeknight News Anchor/Managing Editor
Glenn Halbrooks co-anchors Alabama News Network weeknights at 6:00 and 10:00 and is the newsroom's managing editor. He also reports on What's Right With Your Community. Glenn joined CBS 8 in March 2003.
Glenn is a native Alabamian. He was born in Huntsville, while his family's roots go back nearly 200 years to the farmland of Morgan County.
Glenn has 29 years of experience in TV news. He began reporting at WMAZ in Macon, Georgia, while still in college.
In 1990, Glenn moved to Montgomery and anchored the noon news at WSFA for nearly two years. He went on to anchor jobs in Birmingham and Chattanooga, Tennessee, before spending several years behind the camera.
Glenn enjoys covering stories about Alabama history and politics and has produced several in-depth stories over the years on four-term Gov. George Wallace and his family, including what may have been the final interview with former Alabama First Lady Cornelia Wallace.
Other notable Alabama stories Glenn has covered include the 1993 ethics trial of Gov. Guy Hunt that ended with his removal from office, the huge 1993 Alabama snowstorm and the tragic deaths of "Alabama Gang" NASCAR drivers Davey Allison and Neil Bonnett. He was on the anchor desk for the 1994 Palm Sunday tornado outbreak and the 2011 tornadoes that devastated much of the state.
Away from the station, Glenn serves as President of the Montgomery Rotary Club for 2012-13 and has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He's involved with several community groups including the Hugh O'Brian Youth leadership organization, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He is also a member of the Advisory Council for the Alabama State University Dept. of Communications.
Glenn is a graduate of The McCallie School in Chattanooga and Mercer University in Macon, where he is a member of Eta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Glenn and his wife are members of Montgomery's Young Meadows Presbyterian Church (PCA) where they have taught children's Sunday School. They spend their free time chasing around their beagle.
