Friday, Nov. 6: Report Says Weight Loss Could Prevent Cancer
|
|
 As many as 100,000 cases of cancer could be prevented if Americans lost some weight.
That's the word from a new report that links obesity with many of the cancer cases in the U.S. Obesity contributed to nearly half of the cases of endometrial cancer, which is cancer of the uterus and a third of esophageal cancer cases.

Thursday, Nov. 5: New Research on Twin Babies
|
|
Unborn babies who share the womb with a sister may enter the world a little healthier.
A study of more than 2,500 twin pregnancies found the risk of pre-term delivery was highest when both twins were boys and lowest when both were girls. The risk of other complications, such as low birth weight or breathing problems was also lower when at least one of the twins was a girl.

Wednesday, Nov. 4: Study: Light Cigarettes May Not Help Smokers Quit
|
|
If you want to quit smoking, light cigarettes may not be the answer.
A new study suggests smokers who switch to low-tar, light or mild cigarettes won't find it easier to quit and may even find it harder.
Smokers who moved to light cigarettes were 50% less likely to kick the habit. Researchers say one reason may be because people think light cigarettes are healthier.

Tuesday, Nov. 3: Does TV Harm Young Children?
|
|
Television may increase aggression among young children.
According to a new study, small children who watch TV -- even those who are exposed to it while other people in the home are watching -- are more likely to be aggressive. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no TV at all for children two years old and younger and two hours a day or less for older children.

Monday, Nov. 2: Pregnant Women Should Eat Their Vegetables
|
|
Here's another reason for pregnant women to eat their veggies.
A new study found children born to mothers who ate plenty of vegetables during pregnancy were less likely to have type 1 diabetes. The risk of developing the disease was twice as high in kids whose moms rarely ate vegetables while they were pregnant.
