Maj. Huey Thornton with the Montgomery Police Dept. says officers responded to a domestic violence call. They say a man was waiting for a woman to return home.

When police arrived at the scene on Gibbs Drive, they say the man ran for it.

At the Job Corps Center on Air Base Boulevard, police say the man turned around and came at them with the knife. Officers say they told the man to drop the knife several times, but he continued to come at them.

The man was shot once and taken to the hospital. His condition is not known.

"At this point, the ABI is on the scene. We always ask them to investigate our shootings. It's normal for them to do this," Thornton told CBS 8 News.

No word on if any charges will be filed on the suspect, whose name hasn't yet been released.
