PACT Board Relying on Action in Legislature Print E-mail

Most participants of the Prepaid Affordable College Tuition plan are relying on the legislature to save it. Only 5 percent of participants have pulled out of the program since finding out that all tuition costs may not be paid.

Today the PACT board learned times are still tough when it comes to investment returns, and they still must rely on the legislature's help to rescue the financial ailing program.
A bill did clear a house committee today that would pump millions into the program to pay tuition for its 49 thousand participants. The measure would also cap tuition increases for participants. Board Chair, State Treasurer Kay Ivey says the board is glad to hear the bill is moving in the legislature.

"There is a huge amount of interest and concern because these young people are the workforce of tomorrow and these PACT parents have paid in what was required."

Lawmakers in the House will begin debate on the PACT bill tomorrow.
