From 8 On Your Side -- The Alabama state treasurer's office is going to hold its first online auction for unclaimed property beginning Friday and continuing throughout the year.

Past auctions have been live events in Montgomery. But State Treasurer Kay Ivey says an online auction should reach more people because it is available around the clock.

Items for sale will include coins, silver, sports cards, and jewelry.

Information, including auction start dates, will be available at:

The unclaimed property comes from safe deposit boxes where people have quit paying the rent for at least three years and can't be located.
