Write-in candidate quits Ala. chief justice raceMONTGOMEY, Ala. (AP) — A Mobile attorney is dropping her write-in campaign for chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court Ginger Poynter says she decided to end her month-long campaign because of family reasons and because of the cost of running a statewide campaign. Poynter got in the race last month because she was unhappy with Republican nominee Roy Moore and Democratic nominee Harry Lyon. She said Tuesday she has no plans to support either one at this time. Another Mobile attorney, Melinda Lee Maddox, said Tuesday she is still running as a write-in candidate and is working on getting her name known in north Alabama. Maddox successfully sued Moore over a Ten Commandments monument he put in the state judicial building while serving as chief justice in 2001. |
