(AP) — A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, a committee meeting day: COMMITTEES: —Senate Judiciary Committee approved the House-passed immigration bill with some changes. Goes to Senate. —House Ways and Means-General Fund Committee held a public hearing on a $1 increase to the cigarette tax. Did not vote, but chair said increase would likely need to be lowered to make it out of the committee. —House Ways and Means-General Fund Committee approved a bill to raise court fees by roughly $23 million per year. Goes to House. —House Ways and Means-General Fund Committee approved a measure to exempt dormant businesses from a tax for the privilege of doing business in Alabama. Goes to House. AGENDA: —House meets at 9 a.m. Thursday and Senate at 10 a.m. |
