Prichard water board members earn about $15,000PRICHARD, Ala. (AP) — A newspaper is reporting that water board members receive outsized paychecks for their part-time positions running a medium-sized water system. The Press-Register reports (http://bit.ly/IhzqvM ) that records show that the four members of the Prichard Water Works and Sewer board earn $42 per hour and grossed a combined $60,792 in 2011. The members get an average of $15,198 annually, which is more than their counterparts at the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System, who earn about $13,542. The Mobile water system serves about 90,000 customers, compared to about 11,000 in Prichard. Prichard board's lawyer Willie Huntley Jr. says the board members' pay is justified because of the hours they work. Prichard board members have been fighting a proposed merger with the Mobile system that is scheduled for a referendum this fall. ___ Information from: Press-Register, http://www.al.com/press-register/ |
