Todd 'overjoyed' by Obama's gay marriage commentsMONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama's only openly-gay lawmaker says she is "overjoyed" with President Barack Obama's endorsement of same-sex marriage. Birmingham Democratic Rep. Patricia Todd says she believes the nation's views on gay marriage are changing. She says she and her partner plan to go to Massachusetts next year to get married. Obama on Wednesday said he believes same-sex couples should have the right to get married. His presumed Republican opponent Mitt Romney responded by saying he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. Todd says she and her partner recently filed their taxes together. She calls the experience excruciating because all of the couple's assets are jointly owned. |
