CENTREVILLE, Ala. (AP) — One of three men who pleaded guilty to arson charges in a series of 2006 rural Alabama church fires has asked to be let out of prison early.

Russell DeBusk, a former Birmingham-Southern student, on Monday asked Bibb County Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins to order his release. DeBusk, convicted of setting fires at five Bibb County churches, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison and to a 15-year split sentence in Alabama. Two of those years in Alabama were to be served in state prison and the remainder on supervised release.

DeBusk recently completed his federal term. His attorney, Brett Bloomston of Birmingham, said his client had a clean record in federal prison and should not have to serve time in a state prison. Wiggins did not immediately rule.
