MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Protesters sang folk songs outside the Alabama Senate chamber as the Senate approved revisions to Alabama's immigration law.

The Senate voted 20-7 Wednesday for revisions recommended by Republican Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale. His revisions differ from those recommended by Republican Rep. Jim Barton and approved by the House last month. The House and Senate will have to use the final meeting day of the 2012 regular session to try to reach a compromise.

The protesters sought the revision of the immigration law rather than modifications.
