Ala. governor to sign both state budgets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Gov. Robert Bentley says he will sign both state budgets passed by the Legislature late Wednesday night and will sign a bill to raise court fees.

At a news conference Thursday morning, Bentley said the education and General Fund budgets weren't exactly like he wanted them, but the Legislature did a good job overall.

The court fee increase is one of several bills needed to balance the General Fund budget. The budget is also dependent on Alabama voters approving a constitutional amendment in September to use nearly $146 million from a state savings account to help fund the budget. Bentley said he will have to cut the budget across the board if voters reject the constitutional amendment.
