PELL CITY, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say eight seniors at Pell City High School have been arrested after police say they vandalized the high school.

Pell City police Sgt. Don Newton tells The Daily Home newspaper (http://bit.ly/Jlq5oa) that the students are accused of breaking into the high school Wednesday night.

Newton said the students threw eggs, tomatoes, flour and cornmeal and smeared the produce on the walls. He said they also discharged several fire extinguishers. Authorities estimate the damage and cleanup costs will be more than $10,000.

The students are charged with first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary.

The case comes just days after a high school in Elba was vandalized. In that case, the mess was so severe that school had to be cancelled so it could be cleaned up.
