Feral cats overrun downtown TuscaloosaTUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Feral cats overrun blocks of downtown Tuscaloosa, attracted to alley Dumpsters behind restaurants, but local animal shelters are struggling to deal with the issue. The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/JvaO3x) some concerned citizens are lending a hand. David Reynolds and his wife, Kristy, feed and sometimes capture wild cats, and take them to their veterinarian or to the Alabama Spay/Neuter Clinic in Birmingham. The clinic spays or neuters feral animals and gives them rabies shots for cheaper than private vets. The Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter adopts out 15 to 20 pets a week, and also returns animals to their owners or sends some to other rescue organizations or foster homes. Injured or feral cats are euthanized. ___ Information from: The Tuscaloosa News, http://www.tuscaloosanews.com |
