Impeachment trial date set for Graysville mayor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A Jefferson County judge has set the date for the impeachment trial of the Graysville mayor.

The Birmingham News reports (http://bit.ly/Ke6nHz ) that the trial for Doug Brewer will be Aug. 13 in Jefferson County. A group of residents from the suburban Birmingham town filed a petition in March to impeach Brewer.

The residents have accused him of willful neglect of duty, corruption in office, incompetence and abuse of power. More than 200 residents signed the petition.

Brewer has denied the allegations and calls the petition a "vendetta."
