A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, the fifth day of the special session.

HOUSE:

__Passed a resolution praising the work of House Clerk Greg Pappas, who is retiring. Pappas has been House clerk since 1991 and have worked in the House since 1975.

__Elected House employee Jeff Woodard to be "clerk in waiting" until Pappas finishes his duties and to be fulltime clerk when Pappas' retirement becomes official.

__Did not have the votes to adopt a resolution stating that the intent of the Legislature when it passed a bill pushing back the start of the school year was for some schools to use a flexible schedule that increased the length of the school day while in some cases reducing the total number of days.

SENATE:

—Met briefly to accept redistricting bill from committee.

COMMITTEES:

—House Constitution, Campaigns and Elections Committee approved Senate redistricting plan. Goes to House.

__Senate Governmental Affairs Committee approved House redistricting plan. Goes to Senate.

AGENDA

—House and Senate meet at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
