MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — An indicted sexual predator is back in Alabama after 14 years at large to face charges that he abused children for a decade in the 1980s and 1990s.

Authorities say 79-year-old Giusseppe Pino LoPorto was arrested in Italy after being on the lam since escaping custody in 1998. He was indicted in 1996 in Baldwin County for the sexual abuse, sodomy and rape of a child. His crimes occurred between 1985 and 1995.

LoPorto fled shortly before his trial was scheduled to begin. He was featured on the TV show "America's Most Wanted" in 2002.

He was arrested in 2005 in Italy and in 2010 in Holland, but escaped both times when he was released pending formal extradition.

LoPorto will appear before a magistrate judge Friday morning.
