MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Montgomery police have reopened an exit ramp at the Interstate 65/Interstate 85 interchange after closing the southbound lanes for hours when an 18-wheeler flipped onto its side and partially hung over the edge.

WAKA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/MJYV7L ) that the exit ramp was reopened Saturday evening, nearly seven hours after it had been closed.

The shutdown snarled Memorial Day weekend traffic. Vehicles were rerouted to northbound I-65 throughout the day.

Police told the news station that they're investigating the cause of the accident on the elevated loop, but that speed may have been a factor. The truck driver was not injured. Traffic engineering crews assessed the structural integrity of the ramp before reopening it.
