Memorial Day events held across Ala.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — People across Alabama took time over the three-day holiday weekend to pause to remember the sacrifices made by those who serve in the country's military.

More than 100 people attended a service Monday at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Memorial Park. Retired Army Lt. Gen. John S. Caldwell Jr. was the keynote speaker, al.com reported. He said the park is a "constant reminder of the cost of our freedom and way of life."

Along the state's Gulf Coast, people taking advantage of the three-day weekend packed the region's sugar-white beaches. Some coastal communities, including Mobile and Bay Minette, planned ceremonies to honor veterans.

Across the state on Monday, events were held at city halls, cemeteries and veterans halls.
