OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — The FBI has determined that skeletal remains found in Opelika were from a malnourished little girl.

The Opelika Police Department released the findings from the FBI lab in Quantico, Va. The lab said the remains found Jan. 28 appeared to be from a female of African-American descent who was 4-7 years old. The FBI said the bones appeared under developed, which is consistent with malnutrition.

Opelika police previously classified the case as a homicide. They say it remains under investigation, and they ask that anyone with information call (334) 705-5220 or the Secret Witness Hotline at (334) 745-8665.
