Ala. youth evangelist mum on impersonation chargeBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama youth evangelist charged with impersonating a peace officer is back on stage, but he isn't talking about his arrest. The Birmingham News reports (http://bit.ly/N65app ) that 28-year-old minister Matt Pitt kept quiet about the charges during an event in front of 2,000 youth last week. He did tell the crowd: "We are not perfect, we are just forgiven." Pitt was arrested May 12 by police in Calera, who say the evangelist used flashing blue lights on his SUV to pull over motorists along Interstate 65, claiming to be a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy. He was jailed and released on $10,000 bond. Pitt is forgiven by some followers of his Birmingham ministry, like 22-year-old Cayla Miller. She says "only God can judge you." ___ Information from: The Birmingham News, http://www.al.com/birminghamnews |
