Alberta building amphitheater from tornado scraps

ALBERTA, Ala. (AP) — Volunteers in an Alabama city are building a new amphitheater from scraps salvaged among the debris left by devastating tornado last year.

The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/N6uGKZ ) volunteers in hardhats started construction Friday at the Jaycee Park fairground. Plans call for a stage surrounded by seating for 75 people. Multi-colored shade cells supported by carved columns will cover the amphitheater. Covered picnic tables and benches will also be included.

The nonprofit Pomegranate Center is responsible for the project. It says 75 percent of the materials being used in the amphitheater came from buildings damaged by the tornado that leveled much of the Alberta area.
