Ala. woman gets 9 years for murder-for-hire plotBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A judged sentenced a Shelby County woman to nine years in prison for conspiring with her daughter in a 2009 murder-for-hire plot targeting the daughter's ex-husband. U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance says 64-year-old Barbara Louise Patterson of Columbiana was sentenced Thursday. Her 44-year-old daughter, Kimberly Dawn McGuffie of Calera, was sentenced last month to 10 years in prison. Patterson and McGuffie were indicted in March last year. A federal jury in February convicted Patterson of the conspiracy. McGuffie pleaded guilty in December, admitting she conspired with Patterson to hire someone to kill her ex-husband with a poison mixture of prescription medication supplied by her mother. The indictment states that McGuffie promised to pay a man $1,000 to kill her former spouse. |
