DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — The ABI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday in Dothan.

The Dothan Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/KQLxB8) Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton says the shooting began with a short police pursuit around 4 p.m. Benton says the pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle rammed another occupied vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping area.

Benton says the shooting happened when officers suspected the man, who has not been identified, was attempting to run over the officer. After being shot once, the suspect's vehicle traveled across six lanes of Montgomery Highway and crashed into a business.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation because it's an officer-involved shooting.
