Temperatures across Ala. soaring back above 100

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Communities across Alabama are in for another day of scorching, triple-digit heat.

The National Weather Service has placed most of the state under a heat advisory. Huntsville, Florence and other parts of northwest Alabama are under an excessive heat warning.

Forecasters show high temperatures breaking 100 degrees across the state, with a predicted high of 110 in Gadsden. The heat index will only add to the misery — while Tuscaloosa is forecast to reach 109 degrees, it will feel as hot as 112.

The weather service says temperatures may begin to simmer down next week. The forecast high for Birmingham is 99 degrees Monday. And there's a chance of showers — 20 to 30 percent — through the week.
