Air travelers report theft of $15,000 in jewelry
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Police and federal officials are investigating after a Texas couple reported the theft of $15,000 in jewelry they were carrying in their bags while traveling through Birmingham's airport.
Sundip Patel tells WBRC-TV (http://bit.ly/QFBijQ) that his wife is devastated.
He said he and his wife flew out of Birmingham Tuesday morning on American Airlines flight 1111. He said they checked two bags, one of which contained a box full of fine jewelry. When they returned home to Dallas, he says his wife panicked after discovering the box was gone.
Patel says there were 13 items inside, including his wife's custom-made engagement ring and wedding band.
