Ala. casino developer delays going to prisonDOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — A federal judge has given Country Crossing casino developer Ronnie Gilley nearly an extra month to report to prison so that he can have surgery at his expense rather than the federal government's expense. Gilley pleaded guilty to offering bribes to legislators and was supposed to report to prison Aug. 27, but he sought extra time. U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson decided Friday to delay his reporting until Sept. 24. Senior U.S. Probation Officer Ellen Traywick supported the delay. She wrote the judge that allowing Giley time for the surgery and a recovery period "would curtail unnecessary costs to the government for medical expenses." Court records describing the type of surgery were sealed from public view. |
