MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama AFL-CIO has rescinded its endorsement of Republican Roy Moore for chief justice.

The union's president, Al Henley, said Friday the union's only endorsement of a Republican candidate in this election was based on Moore running against Democrat Harry Lyon. He said the executive board rescinded the endorsement because it appears the Democratic Party may disqualify Lyon and replace him on the ballot. He said the union's executive board reached the decision based on the changing circumstances.

He said the union will re-evaluate the race if a new Democratic candidate is named.

Democratic Party Chairman Mark Kennedy is reviewing a complaint against Lyon that seeks to disqualify him for not reporting his campaign contributions on time. Lyon filed the reports Friday, but Kennedy has announced no decision.
