Ala. high court won't toss felonies against WorleyMONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — It looks like former Alabama Secretary of State Nancy Worley will face felony charges in connection with her 2006 re-election campaign. Her lawyer James Anderson says the state Supreme Court has rejected Worley's request to toss the charges. The case now returns to a lower court, where Anderson says he will fight what he called politically driven charges. The case stems from Worley's unsuccessful re-election campaign in 2006. During the campaign, she sent five employees in the secretary of state's office a campaign letter, campaign contribution envelope and bumper sticker. A grand jury indicted Worley in 2007 on five felonies and five misdemeanors. The court fight has dragged on about five years. The state Supreme Court had Worley's latest appeal for nearly 11 months before denying her request Friday. |
