Ala. commission picks Clem to head TV stationBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Educational Television Commission has voted to hire a broadcast veteran as the new director of Alabama Public Television. Roy Clem will take over as executive director of Alabama Public Television. The Birmingham News (http://bit.ly/MFCT9m ) reports that Clem will replace Allan Pizzato, who has filed a lawsuit challenging his June firing. Clem now works as the director of commercial broadcast operations and the general manager for WVUA/WUOA at the University of Alabama. He is expected to start his new job in early September. Pizzato was fired in what the commissioners described as a change in direction for the network. Pizzato's lawsuit accuses the commission of violating the state's open meetings law when it met to discuss his job.
