BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Educational Television Commission has voted to hire a broadcast veteran as the new director of Alabama Public Television.

Roy Clem will take over as executive director of Alabama Public Television. The Birmingham News (http://bit.ly/MFCT9m ) reports that Clem will replace Allan Pizzato, who has filed a lawsuit challenging his June firing.

Clem now works as the director of commercial broadcast operations and the general manager for WVUA/WUOA at the University of Alabama. He is expected to start his new job in early September.

Pizzato was fired in what the commissioners described as a change in direction for the network. Pizzato's lawsuit accuses the commission of violating the state's open meetings law when it met to discuss his job. Some commissioners have pushed for Christian-themed programs on the public network.
